I believe Ritual Theater to be a meditation on the conditions of magic and cultural revelation. I believe it is also opportunity to embody or kaleidoscopically reflect, resolve and reanimate what is the core of folk memory. I wonder, what is it to dramatize permutation? To play an archetype and let the archetype play you? To ask the energy of a story to visually announce itself and to emotionally respond to the needs of the people right now just as it did before? This means it has capacity to keep changing, and that perhaps the stage itself becomes the offering to the story it is telling. The tragedy IS reality and the comedy IS what makes life worth living. Human mirroring and dramatizing of ceremony is such an ancient practice that I admire. As a teen I was a theater nerd but never anticipated my deeper longing for practicing this with a different type of attention. : Upon receiving an invitation from Ariella to co-vision a Shavuot story that would illuminate an ascending Moses and descending Inanna journey simultaneously while presencing Water as our holy orientation, I was quite floored at the possibility of queering these myths. I wrote the script by way of repetitive poetic unravel, biblical research and time travel, with the support of Frank Leasing and Lauren Brown, and took great pleasure in collaborating on how these characters might encounter each other. It felt important to dethrone them as individuals and imagine them more as relationships humans have to compositions of earth, seeds, systems of prophecy or ways of listening.

What a blessing to be seen.
